Temple Tigers gathered for the fixture against Purnells on a surprisingly warm, bright and dry evening, Coach H was once again left scratching his head whilst trying to work out how to equally divide 13 players into an 8 person game. Having CSE grade 5 maths didn’t really help so he sought the advice of 11 year old Finn Comer who was captaining the side for the second successive game – problem solved!
Purnells were put into bat onto a straw colored wicket and amassed 253 from there 16 overs , Notable bowling performances coming from Miss Captain , ” Nedders” with his little loopers , Charlie with a straight line and length and and another Fin , this time a chap as opposed to Finn the lady who captains the side. Jessie behind the stumps did a sterling job in what was her first attempt at keeping wicket.
Everyone else played their part in a revolving effort as Coach H swapped as many possible to ensure that everyone got a go. Temple’s batting response spluttered a bit, never quite firing on all four cylinders. We were mostly behind the run rate and kept at bay by some accurate wicket taking overs from at least two of the Purnell’s bowlers. We finally fell short by 20 runs in an entertaining game played in good spirits.
The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly Jo and Molly’s fairy cakes, topped of with royal icing and a generous dusting of 100s and 1000s , supported by a big bag of marshmallows from Coach H.
Thanks to Steve and Tim for preparing the wicket and Spike for doing the scoring.
Nets on Thursdays as normal and if Jo and Molly could see fit to providing some more fairy cakes – it would be greatly appreciated by Coach H!
