Wed 29th July, Temple Cloud V Blagdon t20.
In the second match of a 6 match round robin Chew Cup, a youngish! Temple side took on a much younger Blagdon side. Bowling first Temple opened up with big birds Harry Pledge and even bigger Rich Nichol keeping things tight during the 6 over power play. Blagdon slowly started to free their arms and play some shots as skipper J Doel rotated his bowlers frequently. Debuts were given to Jon Hobbs (friend of bearded Dave) and Ben Walter (mate of Billy Garrett) who both look like very useful additions to the club.
Neil Trescothick Bowled a very tidy spell keeping it tight and picking up useful wickets. Miles Hackett, Billy G and the skipper all bowled giving eight bowlers useful practice for future weeks. Alex Nash was good but very quiet (by his standards) behind the stumps. A few too many wides and a few lusty blows gave Blagdon a very useful total of 153 from their 20 overs.
Temple knew they would have to go at about 8 an over throughout the innings to come close. Miles and ‘Dash’ Mike Denning opened the batting putting on a very useful opening partnership. Quick singles, well run 2s and 3s along with some big hitting kept temple up with the required run rate. Miles eventually departed for a solid 27, dash retired on 30 not out bringing ‘The big hairy Bear’ Kev Curtis and Alex Nash to the crease. Nash came and went whilst Bear 🐻 took a particular liking to anything short or wide despatching the ball to all parts as he quickly reached 30 retired not out. Tresco and Doely only needed now to go at a run a ball with 6 overs left. This they did with ease. Doel took 12 off an over to put Temple in control as Rich Nichol and Ben Walter were there at the end as Temple won in the 19th over.
A really good well timed t20 run chase with 8 bowlers and batters used for Temple.
Well done to all who played and thanks to the big crowd that came to watch.
