Youth Cricket starts today!

Sports Masters are back led by Jack Masters supporting a new season of Temple Cloud Youth Cricket. We have been really pleased with the response from the community so far and looking forward to welcoming more parents and children this year!

In terms of frequently asked questions here’s a couple to help:

Where is the Club?

Coming from Temple Cloud head towards Bristol on the A37 and take the left (Stowey Road) past the care home as you come towards Clutton. Then follow Stowey Road round and it’s on your left. Plenty of parking available past the clubhouse and into the grass field opposite.

Travelling from the Chew Valley heading from Bishop Sutton go past the Tennis Club on your left and after a little while take the right up hill (Stowey Road) past the Church and Wyatt’s Farm Shop and Supplies. Follow the road all the way uphill and round to the left at the sharp bend and eventually you will come to the cricket club on your right hand side.

How much does it cost?

Each session is £5 per child or you can pay £55 for the season (12 sessions so saving £5). Each child must also be registered and be a member (registration form available from Dave Willock or on the night) and membership is £10 for the season and covers the whole family including multiple children. We have a card machine at the club to take card payments (when it works!)

What do I need to bring?

Sports kit and trainers, no cricket kit required as we have plenty of that up at the club. Do bring multiple layers for both adults and children as it can get a bit breezy up there! Also bring drinks bottles as required, there is a clubhouse with a bar selling snacks and drinks.

What can I expect?

This year we have split the age groups out for 5-7 year olds to be in slot 5pm-6pm and 8-9 year olds (and perhaps some young 10s) from 6pm-7pm. Under 11s (typically years 5 and 6) and under 13s (years 7, 8 and potentially 9) are 7pm-8pm. In these sessions you can expect fun introductory sessions learning core skills, directed by Jack Masters ECB qualified cricket coach. As individuals move through the age groups you can expect more technical coaching relative to your child’s ability. As it’s our own programme, we can be flexible if children need or want to go into other groups and our key objectives are 1) to engage with the community and give children a positive and fun sporting experience and 2) build our talent pipeline to secure the long term success of the Club.

Do you play matches?

We will have fun matches at times during the coaching sessions whilst our under 11s and under 13s are registered to play in the Pairs League. This is a format designed to be inclusive with 8 players on each side against teams in the area. Rich Appleyard is taking responsibility for the under 11s this year and Simon Curtis is taking responsibility for the under 13s. The fixtures will be posted on the website in due course.

Health & Safety

It is important that the registration forms are completed so that we are aware of any child specific concerns/considerations. As parents please do make coaches and club volunteers aware of health & safety considerations relating to your child. First Aid equipment is held on site and Sports Masters have the relevant first aid training.
